The Emirates Library and Information Association launched the “Committee for Academic Libraries and Research Centers” at the state level, headed by Abdullah Khalifa Al Hafiti, Assistant Academic President for Library Affairs at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, with the aim of supporting and strengthening partnerships and professional practices in this vital sector.
The committee seeks to become an advisory reference to support academic libraries and research centers in the country, and to unify efforts made to achieve open knowledge and consolidate the knowledge society, which is the basis for achieving sustainable development.
Fahd Al Mamari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Library and Information Association, said: “The committee seeks to improve professional practices in academic libraries through effective partnerships and fruitful cooperation between institutions, with a focus on innovation and sharing sources to achieve better quality in the services provided.”
He pointed out that the committee will focus on developing the professional capabilities of workers in the library sector by providing training programs and workshops dedicated to improving their skills and enhancing their job performance.
He said, “This comes within its larger goal to enhance cooperation between academic libraries and research centers, which contributes to the exchange of knowledge and expertise between these institutions, which will lead to improving the quality of library services provided to students and researchers.”
He noted that the committee will play a pivotal role in supporting scientific research by enabling access to open sources of knowledge, which will help facilitate the process of accessing information to enhance scientific research in the country. He stressed that the committee will provide the necessary support to academic libraries to enable them to carry out their role as basic platforms for knowledge exchange. And innovation.
For his part, Dr. Abdullah Al-Hafiti said, “The main goal of this committee is to build bridges of cooperation and exchange of knowledge between academic libraries and research centers and adopt the best practices approved in this vital sector. Through it, we seek to learn about the experiences of others and to know the projects that universities are currently working on.” And to confront the challenges facing libraries and research centers today,” noting that the committee will soon call a meeting of academic libraries and research centers at the state level to choose members representing these institutions.
He explained that the committee, in cooperation with the Board of Directors of the Emirates Library Association, will hold two major meetings annually to discuss progress made and address challenges. The Emirates Library and Information Association also plans to address universities, academic institutions and research centers in the country to announce the establishment of the committee, while setting a date for holding the founding meeting during the coming period, which will witness the discussion of work strategies and future development plans.
