Javi Rodríguez’s pupils will face the powerful Sporting de Portugal in the semifinals
Hard touchstone for ElPozo Murcia Costa Cálida, which for the moment counts its preseason games by victories. This weekend, in Palma de Mallorca, he will play the Miquel Jaume Memorial together with the host, Palma Futsal, as well as Real Betis and Sporting de Portugal.
Precisely the Portuguese will be the rival of the charcuterie group, in the semifinal that will open the tournament at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday. At 8:45 p.m. it will be the turn of Palma and Betis, in the other duel of the day. It will be the last preparation test to start the league, next weekend, against Aspil Ribera Navarra in the land of Tudela (Saturday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m.).
Javi Rodríguez, ElPozo coach, gave a positive assessment of the team’s work this summer: «I came stomping from day one, saying what goals I had for the club, and we are working on that line. The players are in tune and assimilating the concepts well.”
He took on the challenge of coaching a team required to win titles: «Being coach of ElPozo are big words. With all due respect to Santa Coloma, which is a club I love very much, it has nothing to do with it. I try to make the players see that they can improve, excite and win. You have to believe in what you do to improve and you have to impose that self-demand on yourself».
Competitiveness in the squad will be a hallmark of Javi Rodríguez’s team. «You have to compete on a day-to-day basis, and you have to make two leagues: one from Monday to Friday to win the position, and another on the weekend to be champions. We have to take advantage of the opportunity to be in a club like this, “said the butcher coach.
The Catalan coach considers that the signings have raised the level of the squad: “The additions have improved the team, that’s why they’re here. From the outside everything looks easier. I am nobody to judge the team when I was not here, it would be disrespectful to interfere with the work of others. Of course, I see the most excited players on the track.
He does not hide and is ambitious with his team to fight for titles. The pressure does not scare him: «I have it clear, I have not hidden. I have been lucky enough to play in big teams and I know what this pressure is. Holy pressure. Pressure is the person that he does not have to pay for electricity or water, the teams that fight not to go down. We are privileged.”
The demand will be key to win minutes on the parquet: «The reality is that almost all the players want to be in ElPozo. Everyone has to fight to be here and keep their number as a player. I was wearing the 7 and I knew that no one was going to take it from me because I was going to fight every day to keep it.
He valued the Memorial that he will play this weekend in the Balearic Islands: “It is a good test. We are facing one of the best teams in Europe, and that gives us prestige. We have three injured players and one with doubts, but I am very sure that those who play will do just as well. We are going to continue fighting to arrive in the best conditions at the start of the league.”
The team has casualties for the appointment in Palma de Mallorca: «I have casualties, but we are going to try to get there as best as possible. Whoever is there next week will do well, and if we don’t have players from the youth or subsidiary to put them in. They are giving the same level as the others, so there are no excuses.
