Elon Musk, who is a famous billionaire tech entrepreneur, took to the media on Monday to claim that the world needs to “make more babies” and also continue to dig for oil.
Musk, who has fathered 10 children, has warned the world, repeatedly, that low birth rates will be dangerous to civilisation. He made this claim ahead of an energy conference held in Norway. When asked about the greatest challenges the world will be facing, Musk talked about the transition to renewable energies before making a point about the birth rate which was “one of my favourite things to be concerned about.”
Speaking to reporters in Stavanger, Norway, the richest man on the planet said: “We don’t want the population to drop so low that we’ll just eventually die. “At least make enough babies to sustain the population.”
Populated countries like China are currently facing declining birth rates and their societies are also ageing, according to the statistics.
“They say civilisation might die with a bang or with a whimper,” added Musk. “If we don’t have enough kids, then we will die with a whimper in adult diapers. And that will be depressing.”
Aside from that, Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, acknowledged that the planet still needs to find new sources for fossil fuels. He added: “I think realistically we do need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise, civilisation would crumble,” he said, adding that “some additional exploration is warranted at this time.”
The 51-year-old tech billionaire went on to talk about the maintenance of nuclear power plants and ended up describing himself as ‘pro-nuclear’.
