Elon Musk did not take the news of WWDC 2024 well. The head of Tesla, SpaceX and

The reason? L’ChatGPT integration in iOS 18. Follow us and we’ll tell you more in detail.

ChatGPT as a security threat

With a post on of operating system. This is despite the release of iOS 18 being accompanied by updates on how the company’s latest artificial intelligence features and a partnership with Microsoft-backed OpenAI will not compromise user privacy. Apparently, however, Musk remains skeptical.

Elon Musk’s post on X where he threatens to ban Apple devices with OpenAI

Not only did he say that combining Apple’s industry-leading operating systems with OpenAI would be a “security” risk, he also added that any person bringing an Apple device into his companies will have to abandon the device at the door.

Apple’s press release for its latest AI features emphasized that integrating ChatGPT with its tablet, smartphone, and notebook operating systems would help users with everyday tasks like generating content and images, but also added that addresses User IPs would be “obscured” and that “OpenAI will not store” any prompt requests made on an Apple device.

However, he added that if an Apple user decided to link their account to OpenAI and ChatGPT, then ChatGPT’s data usage policies would come into effect. Apple also assured potential users that more complex AI requests would “leverage larger, server-based models” as part of a process that “cryptographically ensures that iPhones, iPads, and Macs don’t talk to a server unless its software has not been publicly registered for inspection.”

Musk’s initial comments on the AI announcements were quite explicit, going so far as to say that if Apple integrated OpenAI into its operating systems, it would represent “an unacceptable security breach” that would lead him to ban all Apple devices in his companies.

The next set of comments came about an hour after Apple CEO Tim Cook shared details about the AI products on his X page. Responding to Cook, Musk reiterated that all Apple devices would be banned in its companies, calling Apple’s latest AI features “creepy spyware.” He later added: “It’s absolutely absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to create its own AI, yet is somehow able to guarantee that OpenAI will protect your security and privacy! Apple has no idea what’s really going on once give your data to OpenAI. They’re selling you.”

However, Musk’s criticisms must be contextualized: the billionaire has in fact a long history with OpenAI and was also one of its major critics, especially because it had not remained faithful to its non-profit ideals. So far, however, he has remained relatively silent when it comes to privacy while other voices, such as those from the European Union, have raised some concerns. Even executives at some German companies interviewed by the International School of Management (ISM) were concerned about protocols when using AI to work with sensitive data, while Italy’s data protection authority warned in January that ChatGPT violated data protection rules.

OpenAI’s privacy policy currently notes that users’ personal information may be shared with third parties in a variety of scenarios and also notes that the company may “aggregate or de-identify personal information.”

And what do you think of Musk’s positions?
