The Secretary of Communication of Movement, Elizabeth Duval, announced this Friday that leaves her positions in the training just over a week to celebrate her general assembly. Duval became part of the project during the 11J 11J electoral campaign as a spokesman for feminisms and gained weight in the first project as Secretary of Communication and then as part of the transitory management that was formed after the resignation of Yolanda Díaz.
In a statement in his networks, he has announced that he makes the decision not to appear on the lists for the Assembly and close his stage “in the management bodies” after verifying the “limitations of institutional and partisan policy.” The message follows that part of the reasons for this decision have to do with the transformation of Yolanda Díaz’s project into a traditional political party after the end of the hypothesis of adding as umbrella of the rest of political formations. Party sources claim that he had been meditating for a long time.
“At the end of this March, the Sumar Movement Assembly will open a new stage, passing the page of the hypothesis with which the project began, and will renew the direction chosen in 2024 in the Asmar Address, ”he says in a two -page statement in which he reviews his journey within adding. “The road had joys, such as when in those general elections we achieved what many gave as impossible: to win to the right and revalidate the coalition government. Also difficult moments in which I have verified all the limitations of institutional and partisan policy,” he acknowledges.
In his letter he recognizes that since he entered politics he had the assurance that it would be a temporary step and that his intention was even stop being a spokeswoman after the elections. “For me it was a requirement to remain independent, not to represent a party, but to a coalition of progressive forces,” he says. Precisely the weekend assembly of March 29 and 30 seeks to convert movement into a Traditional matchfar from the Hypothesis of the Broad Front in which to add could be a hybrid political tool with its own militancy and the participation of the parties that formed the 23J coalition.
The philosopher and writer was one of the most famous signings of Yolanda Díaz for that electoral campaign in which Add got 31 seats. A result that together with the PSOE allowed to revalidate the progressive coalition of government. Although Duval as explained in the statement, he always said that he had no intention of being part of any party was assuming weight in the formation of the Diaz project as political formation.
Just a year ago, he integrated the lists for the first address of Sumar, in the founding assembly of the organization, then still under the Hypothesis of the Broad Front. Díaz chose her as Secretary of Communication for that first executive who was barely operating for a few months, until the second vice president of the Government left the direction of training for tensions with the parties and results of the European elections.
Just days later, the writer became part of the collegiate direction that movement articulated. A transitory direction of which the Secretary of Organization, Lara Hernández, the general secretary of the Parliamentary Group of Sumar, Txema Guijarro, and the Secretary of State for Social Rights, Rosa Martínez, were also part. That address is the one that continues to function until now and the one that will continue to do so until the assembly of the next week, now without Duval.
The leader is the third person who abandons training in their few months of life, although the exits have been given for different reasons. María Eugenia Rodríguez Palop left the project after the European elections. The exeurodiputada had coordinated the Electoral Program of Add for 23J and since April it occupied the Secretariat of International and Europe within the Executive. The most relevant departure was starring Íñigo Errejón, wrapped in a scandal for allegations of sexual harassment last October.
Duval’s march involves the departure of one of the visible faces of the formation, although his profile within the party had been losing weight and did not appear in the pools to be cooking from the new assembly. “I remain fully convinced of the need for a left of the 21st century, which appeals to the youth, popular, feminist and ecosocialist, an internationalist also equally in Ukraine, Palestine and Western Sahara, with a future project that does not remain in the conservation of a minimum democracy,” he says in his farewell statement.
“All the luck to the companions who work on that same path and with which it has been an honor to share spaces in these years. For my part, I will continue to contribute from other trenches, with the same determination of always. We will continue to find ourselves, because the story is not written by those who surrender,” he concludes.
