Sportiness is not only synonymous with performance and speed. There are many other elements that make a car truly “sporty”, and that goes from emotional experience driving and the handling of the car itself. The discussion is even more valid if we talk about electric sports cars: Lamborghini also knows this well, aware of the fact that its future EVs will offer impressive performance data on paper but will always put driving dynamics and emotional appeal first.
Emotional appeal
A concept also reiterated by Stephan Winkelmann, who explained that electric Lamborghinis in the future will offer more power and accelerate faster than any previous model but at the same time will provide a unique driving experience that will emphasize the emotional appeal of the cars themselves. “The numbers are certainly important, and as far as power is concerned we are talking about at least one megawatt. That's for sure, it is one of the pillars of measurement for the performance of tomorrow when it comes to full electric – the words of Lamborghini's number one reported by Autocar – But much more important than these facts and figures for us is how you feel in the car.”
Looking for balance
Winkelmann specified how about future electric Lamborghinis the performance it will be divided in two: on the one hand there are acceleration, maximum speed, lap time and braking behavior, on the other an emotional side for which every customer who gets behind the wheel of a Lamborghini is able to recognize the existence of this part, not easy to translate into electric cars. The first test bench in this sense will be represented by Lanzadora concept that anticipates the first electric production car of the Taurus brand: it will be put on sale around 2028 as a four-door GT car with more than 1,000 HP.
Weight/power ratio
Speaking of horsepower, Winkelmann also talked about the weight/power ratio incrediblebut not without admitting that the weight of the Italian brand's future electric sports cars will be much higher than that of current Lamborghinis. Also to stem this obstacle as much as possible, the Italian company is testing what can be achieved with software and emerging engine technologies as a means of improving dynamic attractiveness. “Our engineers are working hard to achieve this balance”concluded Winkelmann, speaking of the combination of acceleration, top speed and range.
