A survey by Ernst & Young shows that consumer interest in electric cars has grown. Today, more than half of car buyers say they want their next car to be an electric vehicle.
Of respondents to Ernst & Young’s annual Mobility Consumer Index, 52% who want to buy a car want an electric one. The survey was conducted with 13,000 people in 18 countries. Brazil is not on the list. Here’s the intact (1 MB, in English).
According to the company, the jump was 22 percentage points in 2 years. It is the first time that the global index exceeds 50%. Buyers from Italy (73%), China (69%) and South Korea (63%) are the most interested. The least interested are consumers in Australia (38%) and the US (29%).
The survey also states that 88% say they would pay for an electric vehicle. Environmental concerns are cited as the top reason for respondents to buy an electric car (38%), although increased penalties on internal combustion engine vehicles were first reported as a top concern (34%).
