Job alarm: the transition towards the electric mobility it carries with it enormous problems, including employment problems, which are common throughout Europe. Only in Italy the transition would cost us well 60 thousand jobs by 2035, according to the investigation of Milena Gabanelli of the Corriere della Sera. But will it be true?
Car factories, workers and employees at risk of dismissal?
In her analysis Milena Gabanelli starts from the German company Vitesco of Pisa, which produces injectors, with 750 workers at risk of dismissal. Reason? The company has already decided to stop the production of these components from 2023, relocating to Romania, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Stellantis factories of diesel engines, of the sites of Ferrara And Pratola Serra (Avellino), Bosch and Marelli in Bari, Denso di San Salvo (Chieti).
Overall here they are at risk as well 2,500 workers. There are also on alert 1,400 employees of the Bosch factory in Bari, plus others 600 of Marelli. The analysis continues with the situation of the Japanese multinational factory Denso di San Salvo, in the province of Chieti, where 1,000 employees produce alternators and starter motors.
The Italian automotive industry matters 2,200 component companies And 161 thousand occupants. Many of these produce parts for engines petrol and diesel, that from 2035 will be banned. Stopping would put the 67% of Italian exports, with strong employment consequences. This being the case, by 2035, 60,000 people in 500 companies will lose their jobs.
Layoffs and crisis
There business crisis and the consequents layoffs that we have seen in recent months could represent the beginning of an employment cataclysm that would hit Italy from North to South. The problem is already visible in the diesel engine factories, with demand on the market increasing from 54% to 26% in the last thirteen years.
Workers at risk in the auto industry
The scenario looks like apocalyptic and the only solution would be to reconvert these factories, but how? The challenge is difficult because so many components of electric cars come from China, which at the moment can count on a considerable technological advantage and above all in low-priced labor.
How to save jobs by switching to electric? Solution to layoffs?
To stop the bleeding of jobs and save them you need a industrial transition program that in the transition to electricity, it will make Italy attractive to foreign investors as well. Of course, the solution recipe is not easy to find.
It could reconvert production at least with the creation of gigafactory and in this regard the programs give hope Stellantis for Mirafiori, Melfi, And Termoli. All roads have to be beaten including the repair and maintenance of battery packs for which there will be a lot of work to do.
New jobs with the electric car?
But in this difficult conversion the China scares. Among other things, the Motor Valley Emilia has decided to host the Chinese-American joint venture Silk Faw, which is planning to build in Emilia Romagna his factory of electric supercars, with the first hires scheduled for January 2024.
What if the scientists were wrong? Considerations for transitioning to a model
eco-sustainable energy
Writes Davide Tabarelli, president of NE Nomisma Energia: “The transition is a passage from the old fossil-based economy to the new eco-sustainable model, very “green” and “circular”. For the superficial information of our times, transition is the answer to the cataclysm of climate change. In fact, we have been trying to ease our dependence on fossils for 40 years. Impossible to do without it, at least in the times indicated by those who sell easy illusions. Italy, one of the great industrialized countries and one of the countries that most depends on imported fossil sources, has taken on a leading role in the transition towards sustainability. However, it is necessary not to renounce the ambitions of truth, to tell that reality is very different, precisely to make those ambitious goals possible..
We are in a trap. Or the scientists were wrong about climate change, and to think it seems a heresy in the face of what appears to be a dogmatic religion, or we go towards certain catastrophes due to the greenhouse effect, because the growth of CO2 emissions does not stop.
The demand for energy in the world rises and this is always discharged on fossils, gas, oil and above all coal which, together, still account for 80% of consumption, as 40 years ago. There are over two billion people who do not have access to energy as we know it, the modern one that we rich today want to abandon ”.
