hot files
Experts told “Sky News Arabia” that the new government came mainly to work on paving the way for the elections, the completion of the national reconciliation file, and the complete expulsion of mercenaries from the country, and that it took into account all political balances.
Libyan political analyst Ibrahim Al-Fitouri confirmed to “Sky News Arabia” that the ministerial formation of Fathi Bashagha took into account the geographical and regional division, and that in a large proportion it was accompanied by a great balance by the selected personalities.
Al-Fitouri added that this government will be exceptional because it is the only one that has gone through anti-corruption agencies and criminal records to reveal the candidates’ records.
Al-Fitouri explained that the file of elections, the exit of mercenaries, and the unification of the military institution will be a top priority for the new government, and that Bashagha is able to accomplish a lot in these files, especially since his government was the product of a Libyan-Libyan dialogue without interference.
Al-Fitouri indicated that taking over the job from the Dabaiba government is something that may represent an obstacle now for the new government, but he also ruled out the idea of military action to expel Dabaiba by force, and that it will only take more time to complete the existing negotiations for Dabaiba’s exit.
Military conflict ruled out
For his part, the Libyan political analyst Sultan Al-Baroni ruled out the idea of an armed conflict between Dabaiba and Bashagha, and expected that Dabaiba would step aside before the government, especially since Bashagha took into account the geographical division to choose his government.
Al-Baroni added that it is expected that Bashagha will start his work from Sirte temporarily until the situation calms down and Dabaiba leaves Tripoli, noting that, constitutionally, Bashagha is now the head of government and responsible before the Council for the country’s interests.
He explained that Bashagha actually managed what Dabaiba could not do. It suffices that he was able to name the new defense minister, and he also expected to complete the file of sovereign positions and pave the way for elections and the removal of mercenaries.
He pointed out that the task will not be easy, especially in light of the many challenges that the country is going through, politically, economically and socially. He also pointed out that the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis will also cast a shadow on Libya, and that the government should start developing an action plan to confront the resulting crises.
