Arma di Taggia – The Imperia Public Prosecutor’s Office has closed the preliminary investigations of the ‘Praesidium’ inquiry conducted by the Guardia di Finanza, which in February 2023 brought to light a series of acts of violence perpetrated in the ‘Le Palme’ nursing home in Arma di Taggia with the arrest of ten social health workers accused of mistreatment, abandonment of the elderly and other crimes. The investigation coordinated by the prosecutor of the Imperia Prosecutor’s Office Salvatore Salemi started from some reports from relatives of the patients.
I am 39 people under investigation mostly social health workers of the RSA, where the patients according to the accusation were harassed and humiliated and were also malnourished. According to the reconstruction, the food budget allocated to each of the elderly guests amounted to 1.50 euros per day. The Fiamme Gialle have ascertained that the daily amount included breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner.
Audio-video interceptions also revealed episodes in which the healthcare workers threw partially or totally into the toilet or sinks the already small amount of food intended for the guests. However, nothing is reported in the computer diary kept for each patient regarding the failure to enjoy the meal. The investigations allowed the ascertainment of “habitual harassment and humiliationincluding physical violence, threats and insults towards defenceless guests”.
