According to Reuters portal sources, Tencent would be developing a game for mobile devices based on Elden Ring.
The company reportedly purchased the rights from FromSoftware in 2022, the same year it acquired a 16% stake in the studio, and tasked a team of a few dozen people with working on a prototype.
A project still on the high seas
Tencent's goal would be to make a title free-to-play with in-app purchasessimilarly to Genshin Impact, although the design of Elden Ring clashes with this monetization methodology.
However, again according to what is read in the report, the work is reportedly progressing slowly and therefore it is probable that the publication of this “Elden Ring Mobile” is still distant, always provided that the rumor is truthful.
In fact, the Chinese giant has never announced any project closely linked to FromSoftware's souls-like and for the moment has not officially commented on the article published by Reuters. It must be said, that the hypothesis of a licensed Elden Ring mobile game does not seem absurd at all, given Tencent's cancellation of another mobile title based on a successful Square Enix franchise, namely NieR.
In the meantime, Elden Ring fans are waiting for a completely different kind of news, with the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion which seems to be in the final stages of development, according to some clues discovered on Steam.
