This is the second work directed by Ángeles Hernández, which stars Hugo Silva, Irene Montalá and the young Zoe Arnao and Sergio Castellanos.
The Spanish-Argentine co-production ‘El faro’, the second work directed by Ángeles Hernández (‘Isaac’), defined as an intimate horror thriller with a feminine vision, has been shot in different locations in Menorca.
‘El faro’, already in post-production, is produced by David Matamoros for Mr Miyagi Films (‘El Hoyo’), and stars Hugo Silva, Irene Montalá and the young Zoe Arnao and Sergio Castellanos.
The film tells how Lidia and her father, Pablo, return to the family lighthouse after suffering a tragic accident on a sailboat on the high seas. Pablo fears for Lidia’s fragile emotional balance, he worries about her daughter. Lidia, annoyed by her father’s lack of trust, will discover that “something strange” is happening at the lighthouse, and that danger awaits them if they do not find out the truth that is hidden in it. Lidia will have to face her greatest fears and deal with the threat and the monsters that hang over her, her father and the lighthouse before it’s too late.
Based on the usual techniques of the genre, ‘El faro’ tells a family horror drama about depression after the loss of a loved one, and above all how the pain becomes entrenched inside, making the feeling of guilt grow. A story that seeks to highlight the light of truth, through the relationship between a father and his teenage daughter. A vital and human film framed in a beautiful landscape, dark and bright at the same time, narrating a story of reconstruction where Lidia makes the transition from adolescent to adult and takes charge of her life.
Director Ángeles Hernández made her feature film debut with ‘Isaac’ (2020), a film that was premiered in the United States, the United Kingdom and France, among other countries, as well as selected at numerous international festivals such as IFFI Goa, Malaga Festival, Guadalajara Festival or the D’A of Barcelona
In addition to the island of Menorca, the locations of ‘El faro’ include Mallorca and Sant Pere de Ribes and Terrassa (Barcelona).
