They call a demonstration on the Day of the Region “to give visibility to the problems of ordinary citizens, compared to institutional acts, always far from reality”
Under the slogan ‘Another Region is necessary’, the Unitary Platform Marches of Dignity and Social Shock Plan convenes for the second consecutive year a demonstration on June 9, Day of the Region, to celebrate the ‘Day of the Murcian People’.
Four columns – green, purple, blue and red – will leave at 11 in the morning on 9-J from different points in the city of Murcia to converge on the Gran Vía and conclude on the Malecón with “the reading of the manifesto, to demand a plan of social reconstruction, and with music, to make people, camaraderie, “says Ginés Fernández, co-spokesperson of the Platform.
THE FOUR COLUMNS
-
Green
From the Ministry of Education (Avda. La Fama). Social Security, education, health, pensions, care, functional diversity and early care. -
Blue
From the Ministry of Agriculture (Plaza. Juan XXIII). Environment, climate, Mar Menor and territory. -
Violet
From the tracks, in c/ Torre de Romo. Social platforms, neighborhood associations, neighborhoods, women, immigration and youth. -
red
from plaza San Agustin. Jobs and services, political parties, unions, consumer associations and platforms in defense of transport.
The objective is “to give visibility to the concerns of ordinary people – employment, housing, early care, health, education and decent public transport, environmental care…–, compared to institutional acts, always far from the real problems . These award-giving celebrations do not represent us”, says Encarna Aguirre, co-spokesperson for the Unitarian Platform and member of the NGO Rascasa. And they demand that “political actions put people at the center; that socially unite the Region to tackle the day-to-day suffering of the most vulnerable; that they restore and structure the territory respecting nature; and that they regenerate politics and justice so that there is more democracy».
«We are not for celebrations; we are the red lantern in all indicators of quality of life”, they denounce
The Unitary Platform brings together more than 80 social, health, environmental, neighborhood, feminist, political, cultural and trade union organizations – “the last to join were the firefighters,” says Ginés Fernández – who claim a different 9-J. «We are not for celebrations; we are the red lantern in all indicators of quality of life. This is not just an institutional day, because it is the men and women of this territory who make and raise the Region, as represented by the flag that symbolizes the ‘Day of the Murcian People'”, explains Fernández, referring to the banner of the Region that this movement created by replacing towers and crowns with symbols of the rights and demands that the Unitary Platform represents.
For this reason, they encourage all citizens to “join forces in the demonstration and react against so many attacks on our land and sea, on culture, health and education, on the elderly and young people, on equality and decent employment.”
