Eight bathers were struck by lightning in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, on Saturday afternoon, the 20th, and one of them, a 60-year-old woman, died, according to the state Civil Defense. The victims were on the beach, in Vila Caiçara, where there was a “sequence of electrical discharges”, according to the state government agency.
They were all rescued by the Fire Department and a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) on the beach itself. Four of them received treatment and were subsequently released, as they did not present a serious condition.
The other four, who would all be from the same family, were taken to the Samambaia Emergency Care Unit (UPA). “One of them, a 60-year-old lady, died, the others are in serious condition, but stable”, says the State Civil Defense.
