The events of the incident date back to November 18, when the family of a murdered young man gathered in front of the house of the accused of killing him, carrying knives and flammable materials, with the intent of attacking the accused’s family, destroying their house and setting it on fire in retaliation for their deceased.
When a police force moved to break up the crowd, the defendants smashed the windows of private cars and the facades of some shops, and dispersed in the neighboring streets, causing terror among the residents.
The defendants also brandished their knives and assaulted some cars on the road. When the police chased after them, they threw stones at them and continued to show force and bullying, and refused the security calls to stop doing so.
The security forces dealt with the accused, as they were able to disperse some of them and arrest others, while an officer was injured during the transaction, and 34 suspects were arrested and others fled the scene of the accident.
The Public Prosecution said that it asked the police officers in charge of dealing with the accused, inspected the besieged house and its damages, and listened to the testimony of its residents. It also inspected the shops and cars that the defendants encroached on, listened to the testimonies of their owners, and reviewed the events of the incident recorded by the surveillance cameras.
The Public Prosecution interrogated the defendants, who were arrested on charges of attempted murder, use of force and violence with police officers and personnel with the intent of preventing them from performing their duties, deliberately disrupting the flow of land transportation, displaying force and threatening violence with intent to intimidate and intimidate, intentionally destroying money and private property, and participating in a gathering.
The Public Prosecution ordered their pretrial detention pending investigations, and also ordered the arrest of 14 other defendants who fled during the incident.
The prosecution said in a statement, that it “stresses its firm and vigorous response to such criminal phenomena that are alien to Egyptian society, in order to preserve its security and peace along with other security agencies,” stressing that “retribution and the granting of rights are the inherent competence of certain institutions and not others under the shadow of The rule of the constitution and the law, and no person can seek to take his right other than the path set by the law, as law enforcement agencies in Egypt have always been and will always be the only ones concerned with maintaining the security and safety of society, and providing individuals with their rights.
