In the first match, Al-Ahly managed to break the knot against its guest with a long-awaited victory, after they tied back and forth last season.
Al-Ahly’s replacement goal was scored by Muhammad Sharif (63), raising his team’s balance to 6 points in first place, while Al-Ahly Bank fell to sixth place after its balance froze at three points.
The first half was technically modest, amid control and possession from Al-Ahly, without offensive or dangerous effectiveness.
The counter-attacks of the visitors posed some danger to the home owners’ goal.
Al-Ahly’s performance improved at the beginning of the second half, and was able to snatch the victory in the 63rd minute when Sharif took advantage of Amr Al-Sulaya’s shot that bounced off goalkeeper Mahmoud Al-Zanfali and populated the net.
In the second match, Zamalek continued its victories by defeating its host, Tala’a El-Gaish, with two clean goals at El-Gaish Stadium in Borg El-Arab.
Zamalek opened the scoring through Ahmed El-Sayed “Zizou” (19) from a penalty kick that the referee awarded after returning to the video assistant referee (VAR) technique, while Omar Al-Saeed added the second goal with a header after a cross from “Zizou” (63).
With that result, Zamalek raised its score to 6 points in second place, while the army was bottom of the table in the eighteenth place without points.
