The incident erupted when tweets circulated a video of a young man singing “festivals” and dancing to the tunes of their music on the loudspeaker inside a mosque, which sparked great resentment at this scene.
For its part, the Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered the arrest of the accused young man, and it was found that the incident occurred inside a mosque in Qalyubia Governorate, north of Cairo.
The Public Prosecution said that the Monitoring and Analysis Unit of the Attorney General’s Office “observed the circulation of a clip of a young man singing and showing off with a microphone inside a mosque, and coincided with the receipt of a report from the Criminal Investigation Department of the General Administration of Information Technology at the Ministry of Interior, where the accused’s account was monitored on the Tik Tok website and his data was identified, and issued Quickly order him to be seized and brought in.”
While the lawyers agreed, during their conversation with “Sky News Arabia”, that the accusation that the accused will be charged is intentionally contempt of religion and encroachment on places of worship.
The Egyptian lawyer, Shaaban Saeed, said that the accused will be investigated on charges of insulting the Islamic religion and violating a place of worship, a charge that carries a severe punishment in the Egyptian Penal Code.
The lawyer at the Egyptian Court of Cassation, Mohamed Islah, agreed with him, noting that the penalty is up to five years in prison.
