A few days ago, the video in which the mural of the Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal was vandalized was seen, with writings against his political thought, which he proclaimed before the country’s presidential elections.
“You don’t represent us” warns one of the messages that were written on the mural, which represents the 2019 Tour de France champion cyclist.

The public was against what happened, as it is a tribute to an athlete who has given so much glory to the nation in recent times.
Bernal, who is recovering from the injuries left by the accident on January 24 on the roads of Cundinamarca, was the reason for this tribute, but social inequality played a trick on him.
The author of the mural is Daniel Nocua, who devised a way to thank and recognize Bernal for his title in the Tour, but who today criticizes what has happened.
“We as the artists and the collective that managed these works in Zipaquirá, On the one hand, we are sorry that these situations happen, although it is not the first time it has happened with this mural. Basically, it seems to us that it is an opportunity to begin a dialogue through art and we see that what these people are doing is dialoguing through walls and starting a conversation. We want to open these spaces for dialogue, remembering that a few years ago some people who tried to tell and express their opinion were murdered. We don’t want violence,” Nocua said.
And I add: “We don’t believe that the person who did that came in the middle of a violent act, we just see that they are interacting with our artwork. It is recoverable because we were planning to renew it, it is simply retouching a work, this does not have any major complications. The idea is to give another context to the work, including Egan”.
The mural will be restored, said Nocua, despite the fact that he does not share the political ideas of the Ineos team runner, who is training to return to competition soon.
“I have a political way of thinking contrary to that of Egan, but it does not mean that we enter into conflict. My political position is different and I think that the country needs a change. We love where we are from and that is why we carry out all these artistic and cultural works. We fully respect Egan Bernal’s position on politics, and we pay tribute to his actions and to many people who have been part of his history. We want to exalt more than the things that divide us, they are the things that unite us. People imagine that we are the most indignant and that is not really the case. We want to bring a message of love, of reconciliation, that these spaces of opinion continue, where we all express ourselves. They are not just because it is Egan, as a community, we need to be at peace”, concluded Nocua to the magazine Semana.
Bernal does not need any mural to be who he is. And less when he thinks differently. As Egan Bernal, I would ask them to delete it. Or he had it deleted. https://t.co/85o3AOAoaS
