Chris Froome spoke of the current condition of the Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal, who suffered an accident that keeps him hospitalized at the Sabana Clinic in Chía, Cundinamarca.
Froome, who in 2019 had an accident when he recognized the time trial of the Criterium Dauphiné edition, warned for the moment that his former teammate at Ineos is passing.

“Leave the boy alone. He took a big hit. Right now he’s probably lying in the hospital. He and his family will ask themselves a thousand questions about what it will mean in their lives”, said the British cyclist.
‘Leave him alone’
He added: “What does this mean for cycling? Leave him alone. I mean, I just want to support him and his family. Nobody should ask questions about injuries, about when he will get back on a bike or if he will climb again at a high level.
Bernal crashed into a bus when he was training against the clock and had multiple fractures, including two in the spine that almost left him a paraplegic.
“What Egan needs is friends and his family, to be able to work together step by step, focused on returning to a normal life first and then thinking about riding a bike,” said the Israel team rider.
Bernal continues to recover slowly. Doctors reported that they have everything under control and have stepped up pain management.
“My thoughts obviously go to him. No matter what team he races for, especially to see a young man like him take a hit like that is really sad for our sport.”
