Education will finance the places of about 1,300 2-year-old children in nurseries and private schools

Next year, the Community will dedicate more than three million euros to finance some 1,300 places for children between two and three years old in seventy nurseries and private nursery schools. This was announced this Friday by the regional president, Fernando López Miras, during the closing of the Ucomur Awards, which are celebrated on the occasion of the XXIII World Cooperative Day, organized by the Union of Associated Work Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia. (Ucomur) in Cartagena.

The Administration will subsidize the places, as it already does in charter schools, and the centers will offer them free of charge to students. Families will be able to apply for these positions through the admission scales that apply to all centers. The amount of three million euros will go directly to private nurseries, which are thus included in the plan for free Infant places that began to be developed last year.

This academic year has started with the creation of 4,500 places for children from two to three years old, of which 1,320 have been created in 66 public schools; 1,160 in 58 subsidized centers; 600 in the 14 nursery schools owned by the Community and 1,448 more in municipal nursery schools. Next year it was planned to increase the total number of places in these centers to 5,300. Now the 1,300 new ones have been added in private centers, so the offer of free places for children between 2 and 3 years old will exceed 6,600.

The Community has decided to include private daycare centers in the distribution of resources for the creation of free places to “guarantee freedom of choice of center from Early Childhood.” Companies had been denouncing for months that the distribution of allocations between colleges and schools had left them at a disadvantage.

López Miras highlighted that with this initiative “we achieved two objectives: on the one hand, guaranteeing free schooling, and providing all students with the same opportunities because we guarantee free choice of center for all families.” “That is the commitment of the Government of the Region of Murcia: to continue advancing in the universality of education, to continue on the side of families, on the side of the social economy,” he explained during his speech.

Teaching cooperatives

In the educational field, the Union of Educational Cooperatives of the Region has more than 60 educational centers, in which 40,000 students study and more than 4,000 professionals work. Teaching cooperatives account for close to 50 percent of the total of concerted education, which allows “to offer quality education and guarantee the freedom of choice of center and educational project by families,” said the regional Executive in a release.

Likewise, the highest regional leader wanted to refer to the importance of the Social Economy in the Region of Murcia and explained that this is a “business model that not only drives companies but also people, the entire society.” Along these lines, he explained that in the Region this model “represents more than 2,500 companies and more than 100,000 jobs, in addition to leaving very positive data such as the fact that 110 new cooperatives have been established so far this year alone, more than in any other country.” past year”.
