The four venues that teach hospitalized children start the school year in the Region of Murcia
The 2022-23 academic year in the Hospital Classrooms of the Region of Murcia started this Thursday at the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Hospital in Murcia, whose students received a visit from the Minister of Education, María Isabel Campuzano, who was accompanied by the general director of Vocational Training and Innovation, Juan García.
During her visit, the counselor highlighted “the firm commitment to improve educational quality for all those sick students who are enrolled in public and private centers in the Region of Murcia.” Currently, there are four locations that respond to hospital educational care, located, in addition to Arrixaca, in the Hospital Santa Lucia, Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer.
Education has the Hospital and Home Educational Care teams, made up of a staff of seven teachers for the current school year, which was completed with a new teaching profile, specializing in Therapeutic Pedagogy, meeting the demands made by the team.
This team is reinforced, in the case of home care, with volunteer teachers who care for students at home. During the past school year, an educational response was given to more than a thousand students, between the different care modalities and the home care service.
The Hospital Classrooms carry out various projects, such as learning strategies through programs ‘Do you want to see us?’, music and art programs and others oriented to science, such as ‘Ingeniosanos’, ‘Discovering science’ and ‘Fun science’, in addition to of the ‘Ecoaula’ program and the international story contest, that this course works on memories.
A novelty is the multidisciplinary project ‘Al compás’, characterized by combining the work of professionals from different fields, such as Health and Education, to respond to the needs of hospitalized students. ‘Al compás’ encourages reflection and exchange of experiences and teamwork to strengthen the activities carried out during hospitalization.
volunteer agreement
To respond to students who, due to chronic illness, prolonged illness, traumatic injuries or mental health disorders, and with prior medical prescription, must stay at home and cannot attend the educational center, there is the Educational Attention Service and Home. The counselor announced that “shortly, a new Order will be published that regulates it, updated to the changes that society requires.”
The ministries of Health and Education and the University of Murcia (UMU) signed a collaboration agreement in April that will allow the participation of volunteer students in solidarity activities carried out by the Hospital and Home Educational Care team in the classrooms of the Virgen university hospitals of Arrixaca, Santa Lucía and Reina Sofía.
The purpose of the agreement is to alleviate loneliness and encourage the participation of students in a situation of illness, promoting relationships that result in the well-being of hospitalized children and young people. It also favors the increase in knowledge of voluntary activities by health personnel who have contact with sick students, the teachers of their ordinary classrooms and the families themselves.
