Daniil Yuffa, also from the Murcian club, finishes in second position
The Beniaján Casino Chess Club, current champion of Spain in the Division of Honor, continues to reap successes at a sporting level. Eduardo Iturrizaga, one of the signings of the season from the Beniajanense club, was proclaimed individual Spanish champion for the second consecutive year.
Iturrizaga, who a few weeks ago played the Chess Olympiad in Chennai (India) with the Spanish National Team, was the most solid player during the nine rounds and won the championship again, which had a special memory after the death of the club’s sports director , Emilio Sánchez Jerez, at the end of last June.
The new champion of Spain only drew in three rounds: against the second and third classified, Jaime Santos and Daniil Yuffa, and against Pere Garriga. In addition, Alejandro Fernández, Rubén Domingo, Marcos Lianes, former CAC Beniaján player Josep Manuel López, Marc Narciso and Manuel Pérez were beaten.
The Murcian club scored a double, as another of the signings of the season, Daniil Yuffa, was runner-up, half a point behind Iturrizaga. Yuffa also did not know defeat in the tournament, which was played at the Aníbal de Linares Hotel, but drew four times and was unable to win the championship. In the Top10, specifically ninth, finished Pepe Cuenca, who last year won the title of División de Honor by winning the final point with CAC Beniaján.
This Friday, in Mengíbar, the Spanish Lightning Chess Championship will be played, where the favorite is the totanero José Carlos Ibarra, also from the Beniajanense club and the only Grand Master of the Region of Murcia. On Saturday, again in Linares, the Spanish Rapid Chess Championship will be played where Ibarra, Iturrizaga and Yuffa, just like in Mengíbar, start in the group of favorites to win the tournament.
In a month, also in Linares, the Spanish Division of Honor Championship will be played, where CAC Beniaján will try to revalidate its championship title.
