After activists representing at least 130 feminist collectives will demonstrate in the vicinity of the Mexican Legislature to demand the approval of the Legal Interruption of Pregnancy (ILE), were attacked by the personnel of the Mexican Legislature, who sprayed water and spread gas.
The protesters accused the workers of this Legislature, as well as public servants of blocking the demonstration, with the use of water and gases, which represents an act of violence and retribution, violating their right to demonstrate.
It was around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, when the public servants and workers of the Legislative Power began with this type of act, spraying the women with water and spreading gas, this on Riva Palacio street, in one of the access to the headquarters of the Mexican Legislature.
Secretariat for Women and Codhem intervene
After several minutes, the head of the Women’s Secretariat arrived, Isabel Sánchez Holguin, to mediate this situation.
“Look at how the deputies receive us in that way, we already have an injured comrade, we are not doing anything to themLook at the abuse of power, from above, let them come down, we are not doing anything, we want a solution and for them to commit to the approval of the ILE ”.
“The first aggression went from there to here, when they started blowing gas, we weren’t doing anything, they started the aggressions ”, said the protesters.
In this regard, the Human Rights Commission of the State of Mexico (Codhem) reported that in the face of acts of repression against protesters seeking approval of the legal termination of pregnancy; as well as journalists and passersby, the ex officio investigation began CODHEM / AE / IG / 103/2021.
