Editorial Sanna Marini’s board celebrated her birthday in a gloomy mood

The government led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin (sd) was two years old on Friday. The term of office has been in a state of constant emergency.

A few after a confusing day, Prime Minister Sanna Marin (sd) took over on Wednesday. At a press conference in the courtyard of Parliament and later In the A studio Marin apologized for leaving the bar exposed. When it was revealed that other ministers had also violated the corona guidelines, again, one uproar had been taken off the agenda.

Marin’s celebration has garnered attention around the world as well, as violating corona rules has plunged many politicians into trouble. The most recent uproar was in Britain, where the revelation of the celebration video led to the resignation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s assistant. Marin has been exceptionally followed in the world as a Finnish politician. He gazes at meetings of world leaders, international magazines want his interviews, and has more than half a million followers on Instagram.

Due to his media power, Marin is especially in the SDP in his own series. While the confusion of the prime minister’s insiders may be annoying to some comrades, the party knows that a superstar like Marin is like a gift from heaven to a grayed-out party.

Sanna Marinin the government turned two years old on friday. Marin’s contract began when Antti Rinne (sd), who had assembled the government, had to resign after he was deprived of his confidence. Marin inherited a generous government program from Rinte, which had been loaded with reforms ranging from war to parental leave and from caregiving for the elderly to raising the compulsory school age.

However, the government did not become a welfare government but a crisis government. Marin had been in office for only three months as the country descended into the worst crisis since the war. During the period of peace, Marin’s government can be compared mainly to Esko Aho’s (central) recession government of 1991–1995. The youngest prime ministers have been hit hardest.

Crisis management is heavy, but it has its advantages. The epidemic gave a clear focus to government work. Finnish society showed its strength in the crisis. Especially in the early stages, the people complied with the restrictions and supported their leaders, which was reflected in the growing popularity of the Prime Minister and the SDP. Internationally, the situation in Finland remained fairly good in terms of both health and economic indicators.

In the crisis, internal tensions within the government eased and the opposition had to restrain itself. Communication was handled through handwritten briefings in which ministers distributed orders in a straight line. Reporters could not disturb the peace of decision-makers.

As the crisis dragged on, consensus collapsed. It was also noted that mistakes had been made in the treatment of the epidemic. The government’s consensus began to crack and disputes spilled out in public. The media also recovered from their coma.

The worst anxiety has been in the center. The party left for the government, even though many centrists wanted to remain to digest the election defeat. Kenttäväki thinks the center is an auxiliary wheel for the red-green government. Attempts have been made to combat suspicion by emphasizing one’s own line, that is, by public strife. It hasn’t raised support, so in the spring, the center will have to decide which of the bad options is worse: staying on board or leaving it.

The Greens are also being harassed, as party support has fallen and its image has plummeted. Even the Greens need to polish their profile, which also does not bode well for the rest of the government.

Government term there are 475 days left It’s been a long time to argue. The big things of the government have already been implemented, so there are mostly difficult and nasty solutions left, such as climate action, employment decisions and expenditure adjustments. The epidemic will not give way either.

The prime minister should rally the ranks of his battle-tired government, but it is difficult. Therefore, an exceptional government can still wait for the end of the exemption period.
