The mother of presenter Eddy Zoëy has passed away. The woman, who suffered from Alzheimer’s and recently also had a brain haemorrhage after a stroke two years ago, has been featured on the RTL star’s Instagram account several times in recent years. Earlier this week, Eddy shared precious photos. “As long as you’re smiling, Mom, I hope you can be my mother for a long time to come.”
Eddy’s mother was ‘Alzheimer’s like a madman’, as he once wrote with a loving wink. Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia, which is associated with memory problems and a reduced ability to think and understand, according to the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. ‘But with always very nice, pleasant, funny, moving and touching moments’, says Eddy about his mother. The two had a lot of fun when he visited her in Twente.
‘My mom in a n happy mood‘, he wrote in 2020 with a photo of his mother with a big smile. ‘Alzheimer’s is terrible, but I am very happy that I can experience these beautiful moments with this wonderfully silly person. A day without laughter is a day wasted.’

Two years ago she suffered a stroke and things didn’t look good for the woman. “She had actually already given up and would have a short life to live,” Eddy reported. She remained confined to a wheelchair, but the doctors were wrong.
“Amazingly she recovered somewhat from that stroke and we have since experienced many wonderful moments,” Eddy wrote in family snapshots.

She recently had a brain haemorrhage. “My mom is not doing so well,” Eddy wrote on Monday with photos of a smiling mother again.
‘She’s a tough one, because she’s woken up again, and she’s still there, but the decline in cognitive abilities is staggering. mixed feelings so with us, from being relieved that she is still there, to at the same time watching with sorrow how hard this blow has hit her again.’

Eddy’s mother was still smiling. †Fingers crossed’cause as long as you’re smiling, mom, I hope you can be my mother for a long time to come.”
Five days after the message, he reports today that she has passed away. ‘Hello dear mama’, he writes with a series of archive photos. It is not clear how old she is.
Under the photos, colleagues and fans express their support. ‘Good luck dear Eddy!’ writes Gerard Ekdom. ‘Congratulations and good luck to you and your family’, adds John van den Heuvel.
