Mexico raised a lawsuit against Ecuador for violation of the Vienna Convention before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which has not yet ruled.
Ecuador argued before the international court that the entry into the Mexican embassy was an “exceptional” and “isolated” act and justified it by saying that the Ecuadorian politician is a “common criminal” who had been “duly convicted” of corruption crimes.
