Ecuador | 13 prisoners killed in prison riots in Ecuador

The riot took place in the notorious Bellavista prison in the city of Santo Domingo de los Colorados. In May, a riot in the same prison led to the death of 43 people.

The prison officials, with the help of the army and the police, regained control of the prison.

During the riot in May, about 220 prisoners escaped, but a large number of them have been caught.

The violent ones prison riots are common in Ecuador. In them, drug gangs struggle for control of smuggling routes. Power struggles sometimes lead to prisoners beating each other to death or killing each other with machetes.

Last year, a total of 316 prisoners died in riots in various prisons in Ecuador.
