On 28 October 2021 the former Formula 1 patron, Bernie Ecclestone, will blow out 91 candles in his home in Switzerland, where he could lay the foundations for a new adventure in the world of sport, this time not tied to the reality of motors. The British, in fact, could soon join the advisory committee of the Alpine Ski World Cup currently underway in Sölden, Austria. More than a rumor, the possible entry of Ecclestone was confirmed by the person concerned, who is considering accepting the proposal made personally by Johan Eliash, President of the FIS.
Interviewed by Reuters, Big Bernie stated his opinion on this new challenge as follows: “I asked Eliash what he wants me to do – He admitted – and what can I do to help. I haven’t heard from him lately, but one thing is certain: you won’t see me skiing ”.
Regardless of what Ecclestone’s decision may be, his name remains indelibly linked to that of Formula 1, which he bid farewell to in 2017 to leave it under the control of Liberty Media after building a real empire. A sale to Chase Carey, of US nationality, who in turn revolutionized the Circus in terms of entertainment. From this point of view, the most concrete example was achieved with the Netflix docu-series “Drive to Survive”, which, in addition to being one of the most followed in the United States, has increased the popularity of Formula 1 overseas.
A title recently questioned by the current leader of the world ranking Max Verstappen, who criticized the trend of manufacturers a “Simulate non-existent rivalries”, to such an extent that the Dutchman refused to take part in the recordings. Regarding this choice by the number 33, and more generally on the contents of the series, Ecclestone commented as follows: “I’m a realist and I know it’s not going to be very real – he analyzed – I know how these guys act and think and do, a lot of them. Consequently, when you see things that you know are completely wrong, then maybe I would become a bit like Max, and I would get a little angry“.
Regardless of the work of Netflix, which is about to enter its fourth season, the British entrepreneur has finally expressed his point of view on the world in progress, admitting that he is totally involved in the challenge between Verstappen himself and Lewis Hamilton: “Up until now we have always seen Lewis go to pole, winning the race after dominating it. Nobody gets so excited – he concluded – while now I am anxious to watch all the tests and all the races. If I were to sell the house and stake all the money on one of the two drivers, I would say that I’d probably go play roulette, because anything can happen ”.
