An earthquake shook Taiwan. The most affected area was the southeast of the country, specifically, the city of Hualien, where a building several decades old partially collapsed; its first floor disappeared.
The earthquake occurred at 7:58 am on Wednesday, April 3 (local time) and had a magnitude of 7.2, according to the Central Meteorological Agency (CWA) of Taiwan, and 7.4, according to the Geological Survey of USA.
The earthquake, which left more than 800 injured and nine dead, has been considered one of the strongest in the last 25 years on the island.

As of the authorities' report, 28 buildings collapsed as a result of the strong earthquake. It is estimated that more than 120 people are trapped in the rubble, so relief agencies are seeking to rescue them alive.
