Earthquake at the Campi Flegrei
Earthquake at Campi Flegrei, the mayor of Pozzuoli: “Terrified people, they are all on the streets”
Night of fear ai Phlegraean Fieldsrecord well 150 tremors between Pozzuoli and Bagnolithe strongest even of 4.4 magnitude. Similar numbers have not been recorded since at least 40 years old. At least 35 homes have been evacuated in the area. The president of the Campania Region Vincenzo DeLuca carried out an inspection among the displaced people, while the erection of the tents is underway and the mayor of Naples Manfredi has already ordered the school closures in different areas of the city. The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) explains that they don’t register at present a increase in lifting speedwhich is currently 2 cm/month, nor changes in the trend in horizontal deformations or local deformations of the soil different from the previous trend.
The earthquake shock of magnitude 4.4 should be that of greater intensity of the last forty years, the strongest ever recorded since the phenomenon of bradyseism reappeared in the Campi Flegrei. The RThe previous record dates back to the earthquake of September 27th: then the magnitude recorded was 4.2, slightly lower than that of the shock detected by the seismographs last night. In 1984 the number of earthquakes increased of higher magnitude (in July tremors up to 4.1 were recorded) culminating in the one that registered 3.8 on 8 December. From that moment the seismicity reduced until it ceased in 1985. In more recent times, on 27 October 1996 a quake of magnitude 4.1 was recorded. The mayor of Pozzuoli Luigi Manzoni says that people “are terrified. They are all on the streets, outside their homes. They are afraidtoo much.”
