Mexico City.- The news was confirmed by a representative of the Eagles, who indicated that Souther died at his home in New Mexico, although he did not specify the cause or the exact date of his death.
Souther’s musical legacy is especially notable for his collaboration with the Eagles, for whom he co-wrote such hit songs as “New Kid in Town,” “Heartache Tonight,” “Best of My Love,” “Victim of Love,” and “James Dean.”
He also wrote “Faithless Love” for Linda Ronstadt and had a solo hit with the song “You’re Only Lonely” in 1979.
Her discography includes eight studio albums, her most recent work being the album Tenderness released in 2015.
In 2013, he was honored with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
In addition to his music career, Souther also dabbled in acting. He played the character of John Dunaway in the third season of the drama series Thirtysomething in 1989 and had roles in films such as Postcards From The Edge and My Girl 2.
Souther, who was about to embark on a tour with singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff, made his final performance on Sept. 12 at the Baby Grand in Wilmington, Delaware.
