Despite the box office failure that was Borderlands and the poor reception of the trailer A Minecraft MovieHollywood continues to bet on video game movies. After hundreds of rumors, a few moments ago it was confirmed that Electronic Arts and Amazon are already working on a film adaptation of The Simswith Margot Robbie as producer.
The Sims movie will feature the participation of Kate Herron, famous for Sex Educationas director, and Briony Redman, whom fans of Doctor Who will recognize, as a screenwriterUnfortunately, at the moment there is no information about the actors involved, and how Amazon plans to adapt a concept like this. The Sims to the big screen. This is what Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment, had to say on the matter:
“As we approach the incredible milestone of 25 years of The Sims – an incredible feat of longevity in today’s world of entertainment and pop culture – I’m thrilled to confirm that The Sims is coming to the big screen. By partnering with renowned Hollywood powerhouses, this exciting new chapter of The Sims will bring its magic to millions more fans. It’s a testament to the enduring power of this beloved franchise, which has captivated more than 500 million players for a quarter-century. Our commitment to innovating across The Sims universe of experiences and products will inspire all generations of Simmers.”
According to Kate Gorman, EA vice president and general manager of the franchise, the film will be an adaptation of the experience of The Sims. Along with this, EA and Amazon seek to replicate the success that Barbie had at the timeand Margot Robbie’s production company Vertigo Entertainment has been chosen for this project. However, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, director and co-writer of the Mattel film, are not involved in this project.
For now, we can only wait for more information to become available, something that could take a couple of months to happen. So the film will likely be available at least until 2026. In related news, a prototype of the next The Sims game has been leaked.
Author’s Note:
Not everything needs a movie adaptation. Sure, the end result depends entirely on the people behind a project, but when EA wants to have its own Barbie, that means we’re likely to see a mediocre product that lacks everything that makes Barbie special.
