President Iván Duque and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will commemorate this Wednesday 200 years of history of bilateral relations between the United States and Colombia during an event in Washington in which a book documenting the two centuries since both countries recognized each other will also be presented.

The event will take place at the National Museum for American Diplomacy, which is located at the State Department headquarters.
Duque, who will arrive in the city in the morning, also has another appointment scheduled at the Woodrow Wilson Center, where he will be awarded the Global Public Service Award.
Among other things, the award is a recognition for his “historic humanitarian gesture” of opening the door of the country to more than two million Venezuelans who had to leave that country in recent years.

During the event at the State Department, Duque and Blinken will talk about the strong ties between the two countries and the future of the relationship.
Likewise, there will be a panel of experts moderated by María Arana, the literary director of the US Library of Congress.
Participating in that panel are the former Undersecretary for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering, the philanthropist Maureen Orth, the executive director of the Center for a Free and Secure Society, Joseph Humire, and the former director of National Planning, Alberto Rodríguez.

The axis of the event, however, will be the presentation of the book ‘The History of Special Relations: Colombia-EE. UU. 200 years’, one of the projects designed by the ambassador Juan Carlos Pinzón to commemorate the date -which is officially celebrated on June 19- and on which they have been working for almost a year.
The book is divided into six thematic articles in both Spanish and English, has a graphic timeline and will have a digital version.
