During our busy days in Lucca, we had the opportunity to participate in a meeting with Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daleydirectors of the new film Dungeons & Dragons Honor of the Thieves due out in March, and the manufacturer Jeremy Latcham. The meeting was held at the Astra Cinema during the Lucca Comics and Games 2022and to moderate the chat with the illustrious guests there was nothing less than Cristina Scabbia. In addition to learning a lot of background and a lot of details about the film, there have been shown in preview really two unpublished scenes of the film.
Clearly to open the dances was the trailer already known to all and available for viewing on the internet, but the rest of what we saw is pure poetry: without going into details for spoiler reasons, know that the the shades of the film will be very playfulfun. “We tried in every way to take ourselves seriously, but we didn’t succeed very well”said the directors.
This is because the story and the world from which the film is based is about a gameAnd playing is having fun. However, this is done in the same way as many small details, especially the fidelity in the details. In fact, within the clips we collided with dozens and dozens of details related to the world of Dungeons & Dragons The Honor of Thieves and Forgotten Realms, from the smallest objects at fierce creatures present.
The cast of the film boasts an enviable variety and heterogeneity (Sophia Lillis, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page And Hugh Grant), and from what we have seen in the clips the cohesion between the actors is splendid, so much so that the first thing they did when they met, together with the directors, was play D&D. Everyone, before being a worker, is a player, and the love for the role-playing game par excellence springs from every pore.
Among other things that have been told to us, there is the minutiae in the search for natural locations for filming and technologies that made it possible to create everything else. In short, one of the best moments to create something like this, blending the power of nature and modernity.
We are absolutely thrilled with what we saw, and can’t wait to go in theaters in March 2023 to discover the complete work.
