Starbreezethe well-known developer of PAYDAY, had announced that he was working on a cooperative game by Dungeons and Dragons, after obtaining the license from Wizards of the Coast. Now, in a new financial report from the company, it has been indicated where the development stands.
“In early December we were finally able to reveal that we had secured a license for Dungeons and Dragons to use in our next title. It's a brand that has always been at the top of our list of potential licenses to develop an action game around and adventure. The Baxter team is currently in full pre-production and launch is scheduled for 2026“.
This information allows us to assume the game isn't exactly AAA, as it will be ready in a couple of years (still in pre-production), too little for a very high budget production. Of course, this is just speculation for now.
What kind of game will it be?
We don't know much about Starbreeze's Dungeons and Dragons game, except that it will be set in Waterdeep, famous D&D setting. The gameplay will be action-focused. At the same time, creative director Leif Westerholm said that it won't simply be a hack-and-slash.
“When you have a group of adventurers, a party of adventurers working together, it's a lot It's important that it's not a hack and slash game. It's something more. It's trying to look at what makes D&D special. And for me it's not rolling a twenty-sided die. It's more than that. It's the bond between players, the way they overcome enemies that seem to be above us.”
If you are a fan of Dungeons and Dragonsyou should know that Dragon's Dogma 2 celebrated the new year with beautiful D&D-inspired artwork.
