Updates in smoke
There white smoke from Marc Marquez’s engine in Mandalika risks compromising the rest of the championship of the Gresini and VR46 teams, who bring last season’s Ducati Desmosedici GP23s to the track. For safety reasons, in fact, the Borgo Panigale technicians decided to remove the update provided during the year from the bikes in question, which would be responsible for the engine failure seen in Indonesia.
Colleague Simon Patterson of the British newspaper The Race found out what was causing the problem the external flywheel of the GP23finding confirmation during the race weekend in Japan. The flywheel, used to attenuate the crankshaft’s speed fluctuations, helped both grip when entering corners and control engine over-revving. By intervening on this aspect, the GP23s from Motegi onwards will objectively be weakened in terms of overall competitiveness.
The words of the pilots
Marc Marquez explained: “There were some changes that really influenced my riding style here. But we will try to adaptthere’s no point in continuing to think about it. You have to adapt to what you have available.”
Marco Bezzecchi he is the most disappointed of the GP23 group: “This component was the only thing that was making the problem we had a little better. Now the feeling has gotten worse“.
Fabio Di Giannantonio also hinted that he expected a difficult end to the season: “I’m a little disappointed because from here on we won’t be able to use a part that helped us fight with the GP24s. And so the gap will be a little bigger.”
