After making its debut as a wild card at the Nürburgring in the last championship, the Porsche is ready to debut in the championship DTM for the first time full time. For the season 2022, in fact, the Stuttgart-based company has formalized its participation with two 911.2 GT3 Rs models, which will take to the track with the team insignia SSR Performance. The Bavarian team, protagonist of the aforementioned test held with Michael Ammermueller on the famous German track, has therefore laid the foundations for the championship to come, with the two cars registered with numbers 92 and 94.
However, the names of the drivers who will join the team are not yet known, with the latter being announced shortly. In the meantime, the CEO of the team, Stefan Schlund, commented on Porsche’s historic entry into the DTM: “For our young reality – he has declared – starting in the DTM is very meaningful. Consequently, it was particularly important for us to get a competitive line-up with two cars on the grid. I think the next few weeks and months are going to be very exciting. There is still a lot of work ahead of us before the start of the season in Portimão, but we like challenges“.
Words also remarked by the Managing Director of the ITR – organizer of the DTM championship – Benedikt Böhme: “Team registrations for DTM 2022 are developing quite nicely – He admitted – we are well on our way to having an even more exciting season next year. Porsche is a legendary sports car brand, SSR Performance is already shining with notable titles despite being a young team. Together, they will increase the level of competition in the DTM and the appeal for fans “. As happened for the Nürburgring 2021 event, the DTM, thanks to the addition of Porsche, will return to welcome seven different car manufacturers in a single championship, as it has not happened since the 1980s. A 2022 that will include, in addition to the famous Stuttgart brand, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-AMG.
