Another prestigious four-wheeled sporting event further embellishes the 2022 calendar of the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. In fact, the agreement between ITR and Formula Imola has been formalized, which you will see for the first time the DTM starts in Imola, fourth round of the championship.
The expected date is that of the weekend June 17-19 and will give fans the opportunity to see GT3 cars of brands such as Ferrari, Mercedes, Audi, Lamborghini, McLaren, BMW and Porsche at work, as already this year, for one of the most important European championships that has changed regulations just this year. The format includes two races, with mandatory stop for tire changes but not refueling. In the 2021 season the DTM title was won by the German Maximilian Götz (Mercedes-AMG Team HRT, Mercedes-AMG) by only 3 points against New Zealander Liam Lawson (Red Bull AF Corse, Ferrari). Third position for the South African Kelvin van der Linde (Team ABT Sportsline, Audi). The program of each round also includes support races: the DTM Trophy (reserved for young people) and the DTM Classic, for cars that have competed in the past several years of the championship.
Peter Welcome (Circuit Director): “After the announcements of Formula 1 and the European Le Mans Series, here is another prestigious championship that has chosen Imola for its Italian round. The DTM is without a doubt one of the most important series at European level, both for the drivers who race there and for the performance of the cars, which from this year are GT3s. I am convinced that fans will not miss the opportunity to be present at this novelty for the Imola racetrack, a championship that in recent years has been able to carve out a leading role in the panorama of four-wheeled sporting events.“.
Frederic Elsner (Director of Events and Operations DTM ITR): “The Imola circuit has an impressive history and is known as a challenging and fast track. Imola fits perfectly into our calendar and it is another track that demands the maximum from our drivers and teams. Furthermore, DTM has a close link with Italy, in particular thanks to the participation of Italian drivers and teams. We look forward to the first one on the famous Imola circuit“.
