The 2022 DTM season will feature 9 events around Europe, with 18 races in total and the confirmation of GT3 cars on the grid.
This is what the promoter of the German series, ITR, has announced with the publication of next year’s calendar, with a couple of stages still to be defined, while another seven are already set.
In addition to the German classics of Lausitzring, Norisring, Nürburgring and Hockenheim, the new entrances are Portimao and Spa-Francorchamps, to which the already well-known Red Bull Ring is added.
The start will be precisely in Portugal on May 1st, ending in October; the June rounds to be decided, which will take place in the Old Continent.
“We are delighted to present the 2022 calendar so soon, we have worked hard on it because it was very important to plan with certainty and give perspectives to teams, drivers and partners who are interested in the series,” said the director of events and operations of ITR. Frederic Elsner.
“Now we are thinking about finishing this great season well, in view of the spectacular races that await us next year. And for us it is already fantastic to see that there is great interest in the DTM for 2022”.
Benedikt Böhme, CEO of ITR, added: “Considering the restrictions still in place, it is great to already have a calendar for 2022, organizing big events. The DTM is a global series and you can see that from the list of races. 60 countries from major circuits, including the opening of Portimão “.
