The successes achieved by the Ferrari 488 GT3 reach 500, which crosses a milestone destined to remain in the annals of the Maranello company. The historic event was celebrated on the Spielberg track, in Austria, where Nick Cassidy on Saturday 24 September he won Race 1 of the DTM, becoming a witness to an indelible date for the Prancing Horse. On the same day in the GT World Challenge Asia Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino toasted to the conquest of the drivers’ laurel in the absolute and Pro-Am classes of the Japan Cup, bringing the overall count of titles featuring the same car to 110.
The successes. A “round” figure, the 500 races won internationally by the 488 GT3, both in the standard configuration and in the Evo 2020 version, which gives the model engaged in the race starting from the 2016 season a prominent place in history as the most successful Ferrari ever. In seven seasons in the main national and international series in which he took part, this true icon of GT racing has racked up 110 titles. A showcase of extraordinary successes and, at the same time, a legacy of particular value that will be collected by the new Ferrari 296 GT3, which will make its track debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2023.
Historical milestones. In Austria, during the penultimate round of the DTM, the New Zealander Cassidy at the wheel of the Red Bull AlphaTauri AF Corse 488 GT3 Evo 2020 started from pole position and maintained the lead throughout the race, winning the second consecutive success in the series German; the Austrian result coincided with the 500th seal of the model used in the top competitions. In Japan, on the Okayama track, the ninth round of the GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS ended with the victory of the 488 GT3 Evo 2020 number 27 of the Yogibo Racing team, driven by Naoki Yokomizo and Kiyoto Fujinami; behind them were Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino, at the wheel of the Ferrari of the CarGuy Racing team. These last drivers, by virtue of their placement, were crowned champions of the Japan Cup, both in the absolute class and in the Pro-Am, remaining in contention for the laurel in the GT3 class which will be decided tomorrow, on the occasion of the last seasonal act.
Antonello Colettahead of Ferrari GT sports activities: “The 488 GT3 is a car that never ceases to surprise us and give us enormous satisfaction. Hitting 500 victories is a truly historic feat, hard to predict when the car debuted in 2016. An incredible result, obtained also thanks to the teams that have chosen it to compete in the main series worldwide. I am particularly happy that this milestone coincides with the victory obtained in the DTM, a series that saw us debut last year together with AF Corse where we were able to appreciate the competitiveness of the 488 GT3. I would also like to congratulate Takeshi Kimura and Kei Cozzolino for giving the title in the GT World Challenge Asia, laurel number 110 for this model, another truly memorable result.“.
