Drugs | Criminal law professor calls for relaxation of drug laws – Also encourages civil disobedience

The professor believes that utility rooms will come to Finland in one way or another before long.

Helsinki professor of criminal law at the university Kimmo Nuotio insists that the possession or use of a small amount of narcotics should not be punished.

Nuotio shared his position on Monday in the Twitter messaging service. HS did not reach Nuotiot from his vacation to comment on the subject.

According to him, fining drug-addicted problem users for drug use or possession of a small amount does not stand the light of day in legal terms.

Nuotio lists in the message thread what kind of changes he would like to see in Finnish drug policy.

In his opinion, prosecutors should independently assess the matter legally and stop prosecuting small-quantity possession crimes.

In addition, he hopes that the police would update their policies and not fine more often for the possession of narcotics.

Campfire states that utility rooms are needed, and they will come to Finland sooner or later.

In order to speed up the change, he encourages the establishment of utility rooms by means of civil disobedience. According to him, the utility room established as a protest could become a game-changing lawsuit.

Nuotio hopes that all actors in the criminal process chain, from the police to the legislators, would cooperate to change the drug policy.

Campfire is previously tweeted hoping that Finland would follow the UN’s recommendations and move from the criminalization of drug use to a harm-reducing drug policy emphasizing social and health care measures.
