FP1 Mexico, Drugovich replacing Alonso
As has happened many times in recent years, also in 2024 the weekend of Mexico it will be one of the most popular for the teams to send the young people of the Academy onto the track, a commitment they must undertake for two FP1s during the year. Felipe, born in 2000, is perhaps no longer young Drugovichwho will however make his debut in the 2024 World Championship in Mexico City, where he will drive the Aston Martin in the first free practices in place of Fernando Alonso. The Silverstone team announced this a short while ago.
Drugovich’s words
Drugovich, who drove at Monza and Abu Dhabi last year and replaced the injured Lance Stroll in pre-season testing, commented on the chance offered by Aston Martin: “I’m really excited to drive the AMR24 for the first time, I’ve been looking forward to this for a while! I spent most of the year working on the development of this car in the simulator, it will be important for me to feel the correlation between the simulator and reality“.
“The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez is a track I have never driven at. It’s a challenging circuit with a mix of long straights and technical corners, so I’ll spend some time in the simulator before the event to be ready for FP1”, he continued. “I want to thank Aston Martin for giving me this opportunity”.
The choice of Mexico is almost obligatory for the teams. From now to the end of the World Championship there are only six weekends, and in half of these there is the Sprint format, with only one free practice session (in which the teams naturally field their starters). In addition to Mexico, only Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi remain.
