Beloved Zazueta started the project Drop Shop in 2020, during the pandemic and with a consignment sales strategy. His first star product was some tennis shoes valued at 12 thousand pesos, and since then, it has experienced significant growth, consolidating itself as a benchmark in the market.
Today, it has a base of around 850 people who trust it to sell their tennis shoes, achieving annual sales that exceed 50 million pesos.
Sale by slogans
Amado, together with Armando and Juan Beltrán, began their project in Culiacan, Sinaloa, after recording a profit on the initial sale of Off Whitte sneakers. This initial success encouraged them to look for more partners interested in marketing various high-demand items, such as sneakers, caps, shirts and toys.
I have more than 8,000 pairs of sneakers that have been left in storage throughout Mexico and the United States. We have 850 people who have left us tennis in the last four years of our history. Imagine the reach, we have 850 members. I tell them that percentage that I charge you, don’t see it as me charging you. That percentage is what you would give as a discount to someone, Amado Zazueta announced.
Strategy
Drop Shop adopted a marketing strategy focused on social media, using techniques such as giveaways and giveaways to increase its visibility. Through Giveaways and raffles, the company began to gain recognition not only locally, but throughout the Mexican territory.
One of the most prominent raffle events that boosted their popularity on social media took place in 2023, when they set a goal of reaching one million followers on Instagram. The winner would receive 20 thousand pesos per month for a year.
In 2024, they extended the same offer for two years, but with the goal of reaching three million followers.
Branches and partners
Currently, Drop Shop has established an official store in Culiacan, located on Obregón Avenue. However, Amado reveals its expansion plans towards the end of the summer with the opening of a second branch in the Las Quintas area.
This new location will adopt a unique concept, fusing the shopping experience with the atmosphere of a museum of collectible items, highlighting exclusive branded sneakers and caps.
We are going to open a second one in Las Quintas, we want it to be more like a museum that people not only see it to go shopping, but also see it to go have fun, go to know. Although Culiacán is not a very touristy city, perhaps there are many people who could come to see them. I want her to be ready to return in the summer, the project as such will begin, we are already building it, she explained.
In Mexico City, Drop Shop operates two branches with a similar museum approach, offering a unique shopping experience for its customers. In addition to its base of more than 800 consignment partners, Drop Shop has established partnerships in the United States, working with a company called KickStock based in San Diego.
Entering the United States is complicated, being Mexican and like us we are not Americans. We partnered there with the intention of being able to create a business career in the United States and then also be able to open a Drop Shop, although it is the same to go there, in fact, if you go they give you discounts if you are Mexican, he said.
Employees
Drop Shop contributes to employment with a total of 35 direct jobs in Mexico, distributed among its branches in Culiacan and Mexico City. Additionally, in the United States, the company generates three additional jobs. The diversity of the workforce is notable, ranging from 18-year-olds to adults over 85 years old.
We even have collaborators ranging from 18 to 80 years old. For example, Don Robert, who supports us at the entrance, is 85 years old. Despite his age, he remains a fundamental pillar for our team, and although he has already changed his teeth twice, his commitment and dedication are unsurpassed.
Sales per year
According to statistics provided by Beloved Zazueta, Drop Shop records that the average ticket is 10 thousand pesos. In addition to an estimated annual sale of approximately 200,000 collectible items, ranging from sneakers to snacks. The company generates annual income of around 50 million pesos through consignments, of which it retains between 8% and 10% as commission on sales made.
Approximately 20,000 collectible items of desire items is what I always tell them, we are going to sell anything from sneakers to caps, toys, everything that people are looking for. I even sold the spinners, she revealed.
Collectible items
Drop Shop has had the privilege of counting among its most precious pieces the Orange Box sneakers, the result of the collaboration between Nike and Louis Vuitton, valued at 7 million pesos. These exclusive sneakers are even rarer, with only around 200 pairs existing worldwide.
In addition, the store came to own the iconic Back to the Future tennis shoes, valued at 1 million pesos, which have already been sold.
In the store itself Drop Shop, There is also Drop Shop Caps, a section specialized in caps from various brands, both American and Mexican. This section records the sale of approximately 10 caps a day, with prices ranging between 500 and 1,000 pesos.
Drop Shop Caps has truly been our best bet. I believe that in our entire history, because for the first time we analyzed the market, we saw that we had strengths and we joined a union that already existed, that many already did, but we managed to make it very friendly for the people, and now we are one of the those who sell the most caps in Culiacán, since we sell approximately 10 daily, of which the cheapest are between 500 and 1,000 pesos, the businessman explained.
Drop Shop has a long way to go, and the future goal is to reach the United States market, in addition to expanding into more stores throughout the country.
