In the midst of a pandemic that continues without respite, the Buenos Aires government extended the validity of driver’s licenses for two years with an expiration date between February 15, 2020 and December 31, 2021.
The measure was ordered by a decree that has already been published in the Official Gazette of the City. It covers all driver’s licenses issued in the City that expire between February 15 of last year and the last day of 2021, as long as their original issuance date is before March 17, 2020.
The extension period It will be computed from the next day to the expiration date that appears in the license. For example, if it expires on May 4, 2020, the validity is extended until May 4, 2022.
The licenses that lost their validity between February 15, 2020 and February 14, 2021 had already been extended for one year. But now a new year of extension is added, as with all registrations expiring during this 2021.
The validity of driver’s licenses was extended so that people do not have to do the procedure in person.
In the event that a driver needs a copy of his license with the expiration date extended to travel to another country, he can process the reprint at www.buenosaires.gob.ar/tramites/reimpresion-licencia-conducir-covid-19. The procedure has a cost of $ 740, plus another $ 500 corresponding to the National Certificate of Traffic History (CENAT). The license is delivered to the domicile of the person who requested it.
This procedure is voluntary and those who remain in the country do not need to do so: the extension of the licenses is valid within the national territory without having to reprint it with the new expiration date.
On the other hand, a copy can also be requested if the license was stolen or lost. Management is done through the website of the Government of the City.

The objective of the extension of the validity of the terms is avoid the influx of the public in public offices. However, as part of the City’s Comprehensive and Gradual Commissioning Plan, some procedures were enabled that can be carried out in person. Among them, the application for licenses for new drivers and the extension of an existing license to another category or another type of vehicle. For example, from the private category to professional or from a motorcycle to a car. You can also renew registrations expired before February 15, 2020.
For these procedures, only with previous shift in authorized headquarters, which is obtained Web way. So far the open dependencies are the General Directorate for Driver Qualification (former Roca) and communal headquarters 13 and 14.

The granting process can be started from www.buenosaires.gob.ar, from where shifts are managed. The requirements to be fulfilled are to have an original, valid ID card with address in the City of Buenos Aires and to provide a valid email to receive all the documentation and the payment deadline. From the site you can also download the study material for the theoretical exam.
At the venues there were places for up to four people in the classrooms where the theoretical exam is given. Meanwhile, the track crew takes the practical test without getting into the vehicle where the driver is.
The track for driving practice is open. It works from Monday to Sunday from 8 to 14. Also on holidays. The only days of the year when it is closed are December 25 and January 1.
