in an induced coma

Kostomarov won the gold medal in the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006 in dance, next to his partner, Tatiana Navka.

The athlete was rushed to a hospital in the Kommunarka district of Moscow in January and due to the severity of his condition, doctors decided to induce a coma.

After a threat of sepsis, which was added to problems with blood circulation, the doctors saw the urgent need to amputate both feet, but although he has improved, now they fear that they will have to remove his hands.

“Roman is conscious. His general condition is improving. But he remains in intensive care under the close supervision of doctors. We are now fighting to keep his arms,” a hospital source said.
