Dragon's Dogma 2 represents what the director Hideaki Itsuno would have liked to do with the first game of the series, the realization of a vision that was evidently not possible at the time.
“We wanted to create an action experience set in an open world, and that's why we defined the game this way: an open world action RPG“said Itsuno, as the release of Dragon's Dogma 2 approaches.
The director talked about how the development team of the Devil May Cry series contributed to making the action so solid and spectacular, and how at the same time you have the sensation of playing online due to the presence of the party made up of the Pawns that support the protagonist and the fact of being able to borrow some from other users.
What the original Dragon's Dogma was supposed to be like
The elements described by Itsuno were indeed part of his vision for the original Dragon's Dogma, in particular the online component, but At the time all this didn't exist and the team therefore had to make do with what they could actually do.
The same goes for the huge amount of NPCs which the developers were able to include in the Dragon's Dogma 2 campaign but which would not have been possible in the first chapter due to the technical limitations of the platforms on which it ran.
We tried the Dragon's Dogma 2 demo last November.
