It was 2021 when Square Enix first announced Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which is a recreated version of the classic role-playing game that uses the technology so popular behind projects such as Octopath Traveler and Live A Live. The game immediately ended up on the radar of many fans, but after so much silence fans are a little worried about the fate of this project. Now, however, it seems that something is about to change and that an announcement is expected soon.
Or, at least, that’s what the known seems to indicate leaker Midori on Twitter. Responding to a question about whether there will be any news on Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake soon, the leaker said that the game’s development is “still ongoing” and that Square Enix will likely share new details about it later in the year.
The leaker he did not want to specify when this will happenbut with numerous summer showcases coming in the near future, hopefully it won’t be long before the remake makes its reappearance.
Square Enix’s plans
At the moment, Square Enix has many projects in the pipeline. Thinking long term, we know for sure that the company is working on third and final game of the Final Fantasy 7 remake saga. This is probably one of the last projects to arrive.
Nomura is working on Kingdom Hearts 4, which will hopefully receive an update later this year. The company is also producing Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate and a new Yoko Taro project that may or may not be Nier (but everyone hopes it is).
Rumors have also been talking about a remake of Final Fantasy 9 for so long that everything is now taken for granted, but there are no official confirmations.
