After his first presentation, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate has practically disappeared from the radar and we know nothing about it outside of the title and a first teaser trailer which however did not show anything actual about the game, but the director Yuji Horii wanted to reassure everyone that this is the case still alive and developing.
Not much else has emerged, to be honest: “Thank you all so much for the support,” Horii wrote in the X post below, “I know there’s been no information on Dragon Quest 12, but we actually had an internal meeting to talk about it just a little while ago. I can’t go into details yet, but I think this has to be a dutiful homage to the works left by two great deceased peopleI will do my best!”
The reference to the two missing personalities, who represent fundamental elements for the Dragon Quest series, is obviously ad Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyamatwo signatures that have strongly characterized the history of the franchise.
A tribute to two greats of Dragon Quest and beyond
Akira Toriyama, author of Dragon Ball, has in fact been involved in Dragon Quest since the first chapter as character designer main, and its legacy will probably remain in Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, although some of the work will probably have to be entrusted to others.
Koichi Sugiyama was instead the composer historian of the series, who also died recently but who probably didn’t have the opportunity to collaborate with Square Enix on the new chapter, although perhaps something of his work is still within this one.
The loss of these two characters may have complicated the work of Horii and the other developers on Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, but on the other hand it also stimulated the authors to want to build a game that can worthily honor Toriyama’s memory and Sugiyama.
However, the new chapter is under development by the team and news on this will arrive later, all that remains is to wait.
