Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the next chapter in BioWare’s beloved fantasy RPG saga. It will allow you to return to Thedas and find many familiar elements of the saga. At the same time, however, this game will abandon some typical Dragon Age elements, such as the ability to control all team characters.
The reason? According to developers who spoke to Edge there are two and they both make a lot of sense.
Why We Won’t Be Able to Control Multiple Characters in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has definitely moved away from its initial D&D-like vocation. From chapter to chapter the saga has become more and more more action-orientedbut until Inquisition it was possible to take control of the main character’s allies.
Now that component is also gone and BioWare’s Corianna Busch comments on this choice: “From an experiential point of view, We wanted you to feel like Rook. You’re in this world, you’re really focused on your actions,” the director continued. “We wanted the companions to feel like well-written, well-rounded characters who are in control of their actions. They make decisions as real people.”
However, this is not the only reason. Veilguard “is a game with a ‘number of actions per minute‘ much higher. It’s more technically demanding on the player.” Apparently, during testing it was found that letting people control their companions “added nothing to the experience. In fact, in some ways it was detrimental.”
We also know that Dragon Age: The Veilguard fixed an issue with Inquisition that had prompted fans to create mods for it.
