Dragon Age 4 will come up PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC, but not on old-gen consoles like PS4 and Xbox One, according to a report published by Jeff Grubb.
The VentureBeat reporter states this based on the information reported in the profile LinkedIn by Daniel Nordlander, lead player designer of the new chapter of the Bioware series. Grubb further claims that his internal sources also confirm that Dragon Age 4 it will not be a cross-gen title.
According to information shared in July by Grubb, the new chapter of the RPG series is expected to hit stores during the course of 2023. If that publication period is confirmed, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the game is currently in development only for next-gen platforms.
On the other hand, however, numerous software houses are still carrying out their projects for both generations of Microsoft and Sony consoles. For example, Electronic Arts itself will publish Battlefield 2042 in a few weeks on both PS5 and Xbox Series X | S as well as PS4 and Xbox One. Similarly, PlayStation exclusives for 2022 such as Horizon: Forbidden West, God of War and Gran Turismo 7 will be cross-gen titles.
In short, either because of the pandemic that slowed development, or because of the ever-increasing costs for the production of triple A, or because of the scarce availability of Xbox Series X and PS5 in stores, publishers would seem unwilling to think of retiring old-gen console in the near future.
